I would like to get a tatoo in Gaelic in memory of my father. If anyone out there is able to give me a translation (if there is one) of Lindsey Parnell, i would greatly appreaciate it.
Thankyou for your time =]

According to MacLysaght’s Surnames of Ireland, the surname Parnell is English, having been derived from the given (first) name Peter. The family apparently came to Ireland from Cheshire in the 17th century, and MacLysaght does not recite any Gaelic version of the name (which would make sense, given their Protestant religion and the time they came over). There may be a way of writing Parnell phonetically in Irish, but if so it won't be too different from the original.
The given (first) name Lindsey comes from the surname Lindsay/Lindsey. Its use as a given name is very modern. MacLysaght says that people with that surname in Ireland are generally of Scottish origin, but that some people in Ulster named Ó Loingsigh (normally anglicized as Lynch) became Lindsays. The Scottish name Lindsay came originally from England, from Lincolnshire, and is believed to have meant "Lincoln's marsh" or perhaps "island of linden trees". It was the surname of some of the major Scottish and English noble families. None of that yields any Gaelilc form for the name, however, though Loingsigh has a roughly similar pronunciation. I'm still a learner, so be sure to get input from others, especially for tattoos.
