My husband and I just moved to our dream farm after a long wait. We have a cast iron statue of a flying pig that has become something of a mascot for us, and we'd like to name the place Flying Pig Farm. To honor our heritage, we'd like to use a Gaelic spelling and pronunciation. All help is greatly appreciated! My official request is, please translate Flying Pig Farm.

Thanks!
~Kathy

Feirm na Muice ar Eitilt "Farm of the Flying Pig"

Await correction or confirmation ...

That would be very literal and I don't think Irish actually has an expression "pigs might fly". There is an idiom ar mhuin na muice "on the pig's back" which means "in luck", so perhaps an idiomatic alternative to consider might be:

Feirm ar Mhuin na Muice "Farm on the Pig's Back"

Again await correction or confirmation ...

not too much wrong with breandán's attempt at all

i'd put it simpler

feirm muice eitilte
flying pig-farm meaning a pig farm that is flying
or
feirm mhuc eitilte
flying-pig farm, which i think is more what ye're after, a farm devoted to flying pig

anyway wait on more

tá dúil sa rud tá casta cam
is gráin don bhog is don díreach.

Bumping this post...

Does everyone agree on the translation of "farm of the flying pig"?

I've been reading many of the links and valuable resources on this board about pronunciation, but I'm still quite lost. If anyone could help with that I'd really appreciate it. Thanks one and all!
