IRISH LANGUAGE ORIGINAL:

Tá obair le déanamh againn maidir le drugaí

Léirigh na torthaí ón suirbhé drugaí deireanach a rinneadh in Éirinn gur bhain fiche cúig faoin gcéad de na freagróirí triail as drugaí mídhleathacha.

Ba staitistic scanrúil é seo. Cuirfear tús leis an gcéad suirbhé eile sna seachtainí atá romhainn.

An mbeidh feabhas tagtha ar an scéal nuair a fhoilseofar na torthaí? Feicfimid linn.

Is minic a bhíonn scéalta faoi urghabhálacha drugaí le cloisteáil sna ceannlínte nuachta agus mar ar a dúirt an t-oifigeach ón scuad drugaí, is cosúil ó na lastaí móra drugaí a dtagtar orthu ar bhonn rialta sa tír seo go bhfuil éileamh fós orthu i measc an phobail.

Tá an-obair á déanamh ag na gardaí agus an scuad drugaí ach go háirithe agus is léir go bhfuil an pobal ag tabhairt cabhrach atá thar a bheith luachmhar dóibh.

Is fiú don Rialtas infheistíocht a dhéanamh chun oideachas i leith drugaí a chur ar an dream óg mar go bhfuil sé rí-thábhachtach go dtuigfidís an baol a bhaineann leo.

TRANSLATED TO ENGLISH:

We have work to do regarding drugs

The results of the last drugs survey done in Ireland showed that twenty-five percent of the respondents tried illegal drugs.

This was a frightening statistic. The next survey will begin in the coming weeks.

Will matters have improved when the results are published? We’ll see.

Stories of drugs seizures are often heard in the news headlines and as the drugs squad officer said, it seems from the large drugs cargoes that are regularly discovered in this country that there is still a public demand for them.

The guards, and particularly the drugs squad, are doing great work and it is clear that they get very valuable help from the public.

Drugs education for the youth is a worthwhile investment for the Government because it is crucial that they understand the dangers posed by them.
