I read a while back that Russian has separate words for dark blue and light blue, and that they are considered different colours, just as we consider red and light red (i.e., pink) to be different colours.

Where humans see different shades of brown, wombats see a vast array of different colours. To name but a few: milk chocolate, dark chocolate, bittersweet, semi-sweet, the browny-grey colour of the chalky bloom that sometimes appears on chocolate, the colour that your [rice] milk turns when you have Cocoa Puffs, hot chocolate with marshmallows, hot chocolate without marshmallows...
