I've been catching up on episodes of "Paisean Faisean" lately, and they're using an intensifier that I don't recognize. It sounds like "HAIR-uh-ba." It's being translated in the subtitles as "very"...for example "______ deas" or "______ maith."

I'm quite familiar with "an-" "ana-" and, of course, "iontach-" in this position, but this one is stumping me. I've been thinking they may be saying "thar barr," but I've never encountered that as an intensifier (I've heard "tá sin thar barr!" but not "tá sin thar barr deas!").

Any thoughts as to what I've been hearing?

It's not any single episode...I've encountered it in several I've listened to over the past couple of weeks (I just keep forgetting to ask about it!). The person speaking is usually Bláthnaid, I think, if that helps.

In the position in which I'm hearing it, I'd expect it to be "go háirithe" (that would make sense, with the meaning of "especially"), but I'm not hearing the "go."

Got it! It's thar a bheith (faiseanta) literally "beyond being (fashionable)".
