Thank you, I appreciate all the suggestions. I discussed this "odd Americanism" with my brother in law and we got a good laugh out of it because it is true. He decided on "You reap what you sow". Apparently, this statement holds the sentiment he desires in the saying.

So, if I could have a confirmation on this phrase/saying and the pronounciation, I would appreciate it.

Broad r is like the Scottish English r (strangely enough, NOT at all like the Irish English r).

The broad ch /x/ (kh in my phonics) is like the ch in loch /lox/ (lokh), never like a k sound. It may help to think of a very breathy h pronounced deep in the throat.
