Spanish Point

Bathing places are not far away from this village. Spanish Point owes its name to an unhappy episode in which shipwrecked survivors of the Spanish Armada (1588) were executed by Sir Turloch O'Brien of Liscannor and Boethius Clancy, High Sheriff of Clare. The village is the birthplace of the former President of Ireland, Dr. Patrick Hillery.

The beach at Spanish Point is used by locals and tourists alike.
