The Cathedral of the Catholic diocese of Killaloe was erected in 1831 as the parish church of Ennis. It was designed with an estimated cost of £5000. It was not until 1843 that the church was blessed. Major renovation was carved out in 1894 and then in 1973.
In the late 1990s or early 2000s, a fire destroyed some of the building. Luckily, insurance covered the cost of the incident and the church took the opportunity to re-decorate the interior.
