The O'Connell Monument
Home > County Clare > Ennis > O'Connell Monument
This fine monument was erected in 1867 on the site of the old courthouse where Daniel O'Connell was declared M.P. of Clare in 1828 - the historic event which resulted in the Catholic Emancipation Act of the following year. A great deal of money required for the monument was collected in many countries by the late Michael Considine of Ennis.
The monument is in O'Connell Square, the centre of Ennis. The three main streets of Ennis run outwards from here.
