The Maid of Erin, Ennis
Home > County Clare > Ennis > Maid of Erin
This monument was erected in 1881 in the memory of three Irish nationalists executed in England in 1867 who, as the inscription states, "suffered death for love of their country". The life size statue represents the personification of Ireland (Éire). Her left hand is placed on a Celtic cross. At her feet is an Irish Wolfhound.
The monument is situated in the middle of a roundabout, beside the River Fergus which runs through Ennis.
