New name for RTÉ
A few months ago, I got a letter from RTÉ. On the letterhead it had said “Radio Teilifís Éireann“. Somebody made a mistake typing up the letterhead, I thought!
Actually, it seems that was the organisation’s name for the last 40 years.
They have now be assigned a new name “Raidió Teilifís Éireann”, signed in by the President.
Took a while!

You give them far too much credit! They didn’t just spell the raidió bit wrong, they got teilifís wrong too (as telefís).

A Cairde,
Rud eile. it should be pronounced R T (AY) seeing as É is an (ay) sound not the English letter E.

Actually, é is not adiphthong [ei] but rather a long monothong [e:]. Also it is normal practise to read out letters in Irish in the English manner, thus R-T-E (ore tea ee) is correct.
